Hof Butenland

Hof Butenland is a sanctuary for so-called “farm animals” that have been rescued. The animals living here no longer have to serve any utilitarian purpose; instead, they can do what they were meant to do in this world: live.

Hof Butenland stands for the “New Cow Culture” and thus for a new human-animal relationship—a relationship with nonhuman animals on equal footing, characterized by respect and empathy.

Hof Butenland is now home to around a hundred animals of various species, most of them former farm animals that have escaped the slaughterhouse, death by starvation or exposure, or neglect, and can now lead lives that are as free and self-determined as possible here with us.
