Latest information

It is quite possible that you will encounter roadworks, closures and diversions on the signposted long-distance cycle route, which is more than 900 kilometres long. You will find the very latest information here so that you are always kept well informed about traffic obstacles along the way. Kindly note that there may also be unforeseeable events on the tour, such as long periods of rainfall, which could result in restrictions on certain sections of the route. The coordination centre will always endeavour to report any such incidents.

Dike Raising Stage 9: North Sea Cycle Route between Cuxhaven and Otterndorf Closed

The North Sea Cycle Route is closed between Cuxhaven and Otterndorf due to dike construction work until June 26, 2026. A detour via Wehldorf and the Alte Marsch is signposted.

Closure and alternative route on stage 8

Due to the closure of a swing bridge, navigation through the overseas ports of Bremerhaven is currently not possible! We recommend that all cyclists turn right on Lohmannstrasse into Schleusenstrasse, then left onto Barkhausenstrasse to the “Roter Sand” customs gate and continue along Franziusstrasse and Brückenstrasse to the “Am Erzhafen” intersection. The closure is expected to last until 2027. The alternative route has already been adjusted in the route information and the GPX track for stage 8.
