Küstenmuseum Wilhelmshaven

Museum of local history and geography
Museum
Dike - Land - Life

How was the coast formed? How do you protect yourself from storm surges? How did people live on the coast over the last 2000 years? How did the navy, Wilhelminism, revolution and National Socialism shape the city? And what were notorious pirates doing here?

All these questions are answered in the Coastal Museum's unconventionally designed exhibition.

Guests approach the coast, which has changed greatly over thousands of years, from the water. Without dikes, settlements were defencelessly doomed. Detective intuition is called for when they reconstruct in the laboratory how the archaeological reconstruction of the everyday life of the early coastal inhabitants works. Around the medieval Sibetsburg, our young visitors in particular can get up close and personal with real pirates and load a ship themselves for the great voyage. And finally, there is the eventful history of the still young city of Wilhelmshaven to discover.
