With a view of the North Sea and the boats moored in the harbor, you will find the Nassau Bridge in Nassauhafen. It got its name from the crew of the S.M.S. Nassau, which was the first to cross the bridge in 1910. This steel and timber structure is over 100 years old and has seen many a rough sea. It was built as a pontoon bridge to withstand the tides. This means that the structure has no piers, but lies on floats and moves with the ebb and flow of the tide. There are several fish restaurants at Nassauhafen. During extreme high tides, a spring tide or a storm surge, the water rises over the edge of the harbor and floods the Nassau Bridge and adjacent areas. Even the parking lot at the aquarium is then under water. An impressive spectacle!
