Lighthouse
The lighthouse is an attractive attraction and a sought-after photo object.

The approximately 11-metre-high Pilsum lighthouse was completed at the end of the 19th century as one of four lighthouses on the East Frisian North Sea coast. Its yellow and red "ring sock" paint gives it its unmistakable appearance and has made the lighthouse one of East Frisia's best-known landmarks. To climb the 28 steps, you need to take part in a guided tour, because the lighthouse is only open at certain times.

Although the Pilsum lighthouse is not nearly as high as the Campen lighthouse in Krummhörn, which is not far away, it is all the more famous for it. One man is largely responsible for the fame of the Pilsum lighthouse. We are talking about probably the best-known East Frisian: Otto Waalkes. In his comedy "Otto - Der Außerfriesische" he lives in the Pilsum lighthouse as the main character. The film, released in 1989, celebrated its 30th anniversary in the Krummhörn in 2019. In the classic, Otto Waalkes saves his homeland of East Frisia from the multi-billion corporation "High Speed Unlimited". The lighthouse has not only served as a backdrop in films. Author Bernd Flessner also used "Lükko Leuchtturm" as the main motif in his children's books.

The Pilsum lighthouse is open to the public on guided tours. Interested visitors are guided through the lighthouse and learn many interesting facts about the history of this famous landmark on the East Frisian North Sea coast as well as about the importance of dyke construction in the Krummhörn. Separate guided tours are offered for children in cooperation with the Lükko Lighthouse Children's House.

The Pilsum lighthouse is not only used as a sight, but also as a wedding room since 2004. Couples in love can say their yes or second vows in the East Frisian landmark.

In spring 2020, the yellow-red paintwork was renewed by Deichacht Krummhörn. Since then, the tower has been shining in new splendour and continues to offer itself as a special motif for photographers.
