Rathaus Stade

The Gothic town hall in Stade was built before 1279. In the great fire of 1659, which destroyed about two-thirds of the old town, only the vaulted cellars survived. The current town hall, built in the transitional style between the Renaissance and the Baroque periods, was constructed on this site in 1667–68. Particularly striking is the entrance portal, featuring the coat of arms of King Charles XI of Sweden above the Stade coat of arms, as well as the allegorical figures of Justitia, Prudentia, and Mercury.
