Tor zum Nationalpark Schillig II
Anyone who steps onto the beach in Schillig is also standing at the entrance to the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park. Even though the impressive tidal landscape and the many birds are impossible to miss, not everyone is really aware of this.
The newly installed "Gateway to the National Park" stele impressively yet unobtrusively highlights this entrance situation. The idea of making the entrance to the national park visible was born a long time ago. Unlike in forest national parks, for example, it is not immediately obvious where the protected area begins in the vast open landscape with its several hundred kilometers of coastline. The aim was to make the markings stable and at the same time discreet enough to blend in aesthetically with the landscape and still catch the eye. A total of four gates were erected in Wangerland.
