Built in 1754, the merchant's house opposite the historic town hall was long used as the district administration office. Today it is home to the oldest district archive in Lower Saxony (founded in 1948), the archive of the district of Cuxhaven. The offices are located in the Old District Office and the user room and library are in the former attic of the neighboring Kranichhaus.
