Nationalparkverwaltung Niedersächsisches Wattenmeer

The National Park Administration is an authority of the state of Lower Saxony and reports directly to the Niedersächsisches Ministerium für Umwelt, Energie und Klimaschutz subordinate. There are currently 57 employees working in the administration in permanent or temporary project positions. They are assigned to four different departments: Nature Conservation, Communication & Research, Biosphere Reserve and Internal Administration. The head of the National Park Administration has been Peter Südbeck since 2005.

The tasks of the National Park Administration are defined in the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park Act. Other authorities are also responsible for certain tasks and areas in the national park, e.g. the lower nature conservation authorities in the districts and independent cities, the Lower Saxony State Agency for Water Management, Coastal Defence and Nature Conservation (NLWKN) or the Domain Administration. Measures taken by these authorities and the national park administration are coordinated with each other.
