Nothing is known about the life of Catholic Christians in Hooksiel and the surrounding villages until the First World War. However, soldiers were stationed here during both wars. Before the last war, there was a labor camp here for the construction of fortifications in the coastal area. There is no doubt that there were Catholics among these people. In 1945/1946, families and individuals were also accommodated in Hooksiel and the surrounding area in connection with resettlements and expulsions from the East German territories with the refugee transports to Wangerland.
At that time, more than 350 Catholic Christians lived in Hooksiel.
The Catholic church in Hooksiel was consecrated on October 6, 1966 and was given the name "St. Ansgar". As Hooksiel developed into a popular vacation resort over time, an extension to the church premises became necessary. On October 17, 1982, after six months of construction, the newly built rooms were opened for their intended purpose: a new sacristy and a parish room with a library, which can be opened as a "summer church" during services.
