Theater am Meer

The "Theater am Meer - Niederdeutsche Bühne Wilhelmshaven" is a private theater in the legal form of a non-profit association that is a permanent fixture in the cultural life of the city of Wilhelmshaven. For 80 years, the semi-professional theater has been presenting productions in Low German in order to promote the Low German language.

The ensemble, whether on or behind the stage, plays on a purely amateur basis, but is trained and further educated through a wide range of seminars offered by the Low German Stage Association and through its own training courses in all areas. This guarantees high-quality theater fare. In addition, the "Theater am Meer" actively trains young talent with a full-time theater teacher to ensure that the ensemble has a balanced demographic and that the Low German language is preserved for future generations.

In collaboration with professional directors and stage designers, the stage presents a mixed repertoire of four productions each season in its own 99-seat Zimmertheater. From classic comedies to light-hearted comedies and fast-paced farces, and from exciting plays to dramatic tragedies, everything that fits into the program in Low German is represented.
