With around 80 historic organs, the Elbe-Weser region is one of the foremost centers of European organ culture. In impressive churches that have shaped the local landscape for centuries, one finds instruments of extraordinary beauty and tonal diversity, as well as organs that tell their own stories.
Among the region’s most special treasures are the eight surviving organs built by the famous organ builder Arp Schnitger. His instruments are considered masterpieces of North German Baroque and attract visitors from all over the world. Four of these unique organs alone are located in the “Altes Land am Elbstrom” vacation region. Anyone who hears their powerful yet subtly nuanced sound embarks on a fascinating journey through time into the musical world of bygone eras.
The Stade Organ Academy invites you to discover this cultural heritage with all your senses. Since its founding in 2002, it has delighted people of all ages with concerts, organ tours, excursions, and educational programs dedicated to the “Queen of Instruments,” opening the doors to impressive church interiors.
