Zoo am Meer mit Nordsee-Aquarium

Right by the dike, you’ll encounter fascinating animals through floor-to-ceiling glass panels. The tour through the seaside zoo—home to a total of 1,100 animals representing 120 species—begins with the chimpanzee troop and continues past the zoo’s favorites: the polar bears, seals, penguins, and co. The otter family scurries through its enclosure with seemingly boundless energy, while the pumas lounge relaxed in their spots in front of the glass.

A highlight: the North Sea Aquarium with nine tanks full of impressive marine life such as cat sharks, sea wolves, seahorses, and octopuses. Fascinating insights into habitats and biodiversity make your visit an unforgettable experience.

At the Zoo am Meer in Bremerhaven, important topics such as species conservation and biodiversity are presented in an engaging way—through guided tours, the zoo school, and events.

For children, the adventure playground offers pure fun: the zoo’s focus on water-related and Nordic animals was incorporated into the playground’s design. There’s a beached ship whose overturned bow serves as a hutch for the rabbits. Due to limited space, the ship’s wheelhouse is built on stilts, with the visitor path continuing underneath it. From the elevated platform of the wheelhouse, a suspension bridge leads to the kea enclosure, offering a unique view. The differences in elevation throughout the zoo have been utilized to create a climbing trail that ends with a slide. Older children also enjoy using the playground for climbing and balancing.

While the little ones play, you can enjoy the ocean view and reflect on your experiences over a cup of coffee. Daily feedings also offer exciting insights.
